چکیده

The impressive growth of the aviation industry and number flights entail several environmental repercussions, such as increased aircraft noise emissions. With worrying complaints from communities around airports comes also distrust in numerical models used for prediction. In this study, we compare ‘Dutch model’ predictions to measured values NOise MOnitoring System (NOMOS) Amsterdam Airport Schiphol between 2012 2018. While model underestimates 2012, prediction improved throughout years. We observe a decreasing trend aircraft-related Lden 0.6 dB(A)/year (a total 3.6 dB(A) over investigation period), although flight movements during observation time. propose that change fleet mix, well implementation Noise Abatement Procedures at Airport, fuelled trend.

Integrated Gate and Bus Assignment at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

At an airport a series of assignment problems need to be solved before aircraft can arrive and depart and passengers can embark and disembark. A lot of different parties are involved with this, each of which having to plan their own schedule. Two of the assignment problems that the ’Regie’ at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AAS) is responsible for, are the gate assignment problem (i.e. where to pla...

Aircraft Noise and Quality of Life around Frankfurt Airport

In a survey of 2,312 residents living near Frankfurt Airport aircraft noise annoyance and disturbances as well as environmental (EQoL) and health-related quality of life (HQoL) were assessed and compared with data on exposure due to aircraft, road traffic, and railway noise. Results indicate higher noise annoyance than predicted from general exposure-response curves. Beside aircraft sound level...

Incidence of cancer in the area around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in 1988–2003: a population-based ecological study

BACKGROUND Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is a major source of complaints about aircraft noise, safety risks and concerns about long term adverse health effects, including cancer. We investigated whether residents of the area around Schiphol are at higher risk of developing cancer than the general Dutch population. METHODS In a population-based study using the regional cancer registry, we estimat...

Finding a robust assignment of flights to gates at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

In this paper we investigate the gate assignment problem as it appears at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AAS). Currently, the gate planners spend many hours on adjusting the automatically generated planning during the day of operation to make it proof against small deviations from the schedule. To alleviate this problem, we aim at finding a robust solution, given the planned arrivals and departure...

Aircraft noise around a large international airport and its impact on general health and medication use.

AIMS To assess the prevalence of general health status, use of sleep medication, and use of medication for cardiovascular diseases, and to study their relation to aircraft noise exposure. METHODS These health indicators were measured by a cross-sectional survey among 11 812 respondents living within a radius of 25 km around Schiphol airport (Amsterdam). RESULTS Adjusted odds ratios ranged f...
